ALBANY -- Gallant Son, runner-up in the 2011 San Francisco Mile, will be back for the 2012 edition of the Grade 3 turf stakes at Golden Gate Fields.

The $150,000 SF Mile will have its 62nd running Saturday and Gallant Son is among the horses confirmed to start in the race. Entries for the feature will be taken Wednesday morning

Gallant Son rallied along the rail during the stretch run of last year’s SF Mile but couldn’t catch Our Nautique, who scored by 1 1/4 lengths. Gallant Son got the money in his next start, however, when he won the Robert K. Kerlan Memorial Handicap at Hollywood Park by a head.

Gallant Son, trained by Frank Lucarelli, is a 6-year-old horse who has won seven of his 27 career starts and $380,662. Gallant Son has won six stakes and scored his biggest victory in the Grade 3 Inglewood Handicap at Hollywood Park in 2010.

Jockey Leslie Mawing, who recently moved his tack from Golden Gate Fields to Emerald Downs in Washington, will be back at the East Bay racetrack to ride Gallant Son in the SF Mile.

Other runners confirmed for the SF Mile are: Dunmore East, Kerwin John will ride; Hudson Landing, Juan Hernandez; Live Sundays, no rider; Photo Shopped, Frank Alvarado; and Positive Response, Julien Couton.

Jeranimo, a 6-year-old horse who owns four Grade 2 stakes triumphs and an impressive $858,400 bankroll, is listed as a probable starter. The list of possible starters includes Calimonco, Deacon Speakin’, Mr. Candy Bar, Smug, and Tigah.
