TORONTO, August 13 * C Karma, a dark bay daughter of Exchange Rate, gets her first taste of stakes action in Saturday's $150,000 Ontario Debutante, at Woodbine.

Owned by Pamela Edel and trained by Greg De Gannes, the two-year-old Florida-bred broke her maiden in her most recent start, a two-length score at five furlongs over the Toronto oval Polytrack on August 2.

Sent off at 3-1, C Karma earned an 83 Beyer figure (Daily Racing Form speed rating) for the victory.

"It was an impressive race," said De Gannes, of the filly, who has $54,600 in purse earnings. "She delivered to our expectations."

C Karma finished third in her career bow on June 21, 2 ¾ lengths behind Lola B., whom she'll face in the six-furlong Ontario Debutante.

In her next race, a five-furlong maiden special weight on the 'Poly,' C Karma rallied willingly to finish second to Singing Rose, a half-length back at the wire.

De Gannes is confident C Karma will be ready for her first stakes test.

"Her first two races weren't disappointing at all, but she seems to have put it all together."

She'll face eight rivals in the Ontario Debutante, including a trio of Steve Asmussen trainees: A Day for Dancing, Fanci Candi and Juliet's Spirit, winner of the My Dear Stakes.

Breaking from post one shouldn't be an issue, according to De Gannes.

"I think David (jockey Clark) will have more than enough time to sort out where he wants to put her, whether it's on the lead or off the pace."

Last year, Officer Cherrie won the 29th running of the Ontario Debutante.

The Ontario Debutante is one of two features on Saturday's programme. Multiple stakes winner Bear Now, who recently eclipsed the $1-million mark in earnings with a victory in the Ontario Matron Stakes, headlines the (race four) Belle Mahone Stakes.
