The $50,000 Hookedonthefeelin has attracted nine three-year-old fillies set to race five furlongs on the turf. Not one of the entrants has ever raced on the grass. Haley’s Lolipop is the lukewarm 7-2 favorite. The Steve Klesaris trainee has stakes experience and will be ridden by Rosie Napravnik. She posted a win and a third in the Wide Country Stakes in two starts at Laurel this winter.
The $50,000 Geisha Stakes will see five runners go 1-1/16 miles on the main track, including All Smiles who wheels right back off last Saturday’s closing day victory in the Dahlia Stakes at Laurel. The daughter of Awesome Again is the overwhelming, 6-5 favorite for trainer Frannie Campitelli.
Trainer Chris Grove is also bringing back Princess Nyla (2-1) on one week’s rest. The daughter of Lion Hearted has finished in the money 11 consecutive times, dating back to February 2008. Grove won this race at Pimlico with both Silmaril (2004) and Lexi Star (2008).
“She always tries but she isn’t a superstar like those other two but she gives you an honest day’s work, a blue collar kind of horse,” said Grove, who will saddle Heaven’s Voice in the Hookedonthefeelin. “I love Pimlico. The biggest win of my career was when Silmaril upset Ashado in the Grade III Pimlico Distaff in 2005. You always want to have a horse run on Preakness weekend-it is such a special time.”
Country music star Darryl Worley will perform a “halftime” concert in-between the fifth and sixth races. The 44-year-old has produced three number one singles during his career: “I Miss My Friend” (2002) “Have You Forgotten” (2003) and “Awful, Beautiful Life” (2004-05).
Other attractions include concession specials, a BBQ on the Apron and a chance to win Charm City prize packs, including tickets to the Preakness ® Stakes and Baltimore Orioles.
