The unprecedented accomplishments of Acclamation prompted voters in the annual media poll to make the five-year-old California-bred son of Unusual Heat a champion of the 72nd Del Mar summer season in three categories, topped by Horse of the Meeting.

From winning both the Grade I Eddie Read Handicap on grass and the Grade I TVG $1 million Pacific Classic on the Polytrack main course, Acclamation was a unanimous selection as Horse of the Meeting and top older horse and a near-unanimous choice as top grass horse.

In close sprint division balloting, The Factor, winner of the seven-furlong Pat O’Brien Stakes, took honors over stablemate Euroears, who prevailed in the six-furlong Bing Crosby. Voters were impressed by three-year-old The Factor’s victory over older rivals and the time of 1:21.56, second-fastest for the race since the installation of Polytrack in 2007.

Ultra Blend, winner of the Clement L. Hirsch Stakes, which had been the province of Zenyatta for the previous three years, was a landslide choice for top older filly or mare.

The three-year-old divisional titles went to horses that shipped in from across the country to win deciding races. Summer Soiree took the Del Mar Oaks shortly after arriving from Maryland and Banned the Del Mar Derby off the plane from Chicago.

Weemissfrankie parlayed a victory in a talent-deep maiden race on opening day of the meeting, July 20, to a win in the Del Mar Debutante, on September 3, and unanimous acclaim as the 2-year-old filly of the meeting.

Drill took the top 2-year-old honors by virtue of his victory in the Del Mar Futurity, becoming the 10th Futurity winner for trainer Bob Baffert.
