ALBANY -- Jockey Frank Alvarado and trainer Steve Sherman teamed up for a pair of victories at Golden Gate Fields Thursday.

Alvarado and Sherman took the fourth race with heavy favorite Newport Lulu, who paid $3.00 after running off to a seven-length victory in a six-furlong contest for fillies and mares.

The duo came back to win the sixth race with Skyspy, who returned $11.20 after upsetting 1-to-2 favorite Summer Haze by one length in a six-furlong dash for 3-year-olds.

Alvarado ranks as the second-leading jockey at the fall meeting with 55 wins. Russell Baze, who won Thursday's second race with Camisado ($7.60), leads the jockey colony with 91 victories.

Sherman is fourth in the trainer standings with 30 victories. Jerry Hollendorfer, who also saddled two winners Thursday, leads his colleagues with 52 training wins. Hollendorfer took the third race with Shawklit Sundae ($7.60) and the seventh with Devilish Denae ($10.60).

Jockeys Catalino Martinez and Leslie Mawing also had riding doubles Thursday. Martinez won the fifth race with Venadita ($20.60) and the seventh with Devilish Denae. Mawing took the third race with Shawklit Sundae and the eighth with Defensive Move ($6.40).
