The live money series will be free to enter once again and offer berths into the 2010 Horse Player World Series. Players must be members of the Twin Spires Club (TSC) in order to participate, however membership in the TSC is free and contestants may join the TSC when signing up for the contest.
The contest will be organic to the typical day at the track, meaning that players will have the flexibility to wager in all open pools on that afternoon’s live Arlington Park card. Players may participate from any location within the track as there is no need for assigned contest wagering windows. However, all wagers must be made using the contest card at self service terminals only and players must play five races from Arlington Park, however, they may invest winnings into future wagers. Players will receive 10 TSC points per dollar for every $1 wagered using their contest card.
The person who amasses the highest bankroll be the winner and earn 250,000 Twin Spires Club points and the right to enter the Sept. 26 Championship. The second-place finisher will earn 150,000 TSC points and a berth in the Sept. 26 Championship while the third-place finisher will pick up 100,000 TSC points and a berth in Sept. 26 Championship.
Players are encouraged to play in as many qualifying contests as possible as their bankroll totals at the end of each contest will be combined for a season score. The top 125 players who fail to win automatic berths into the finals, will qualify for the Championship contest and compete for its prizes.
Prizes for winning the season-long scoring total will be 750,000 TSC points to the winner, 500,000 TSC points to the second-place finisher and 200,000 TSC points to the third place finisher.
Players that qualify for the Championship will compete for bragging rights as "Arlington Park Handicapper of the Year", as well as cash prizes and berths in Coast Casino's Horseplayer World Series for 2010.
New for 2009, every Arlington Handicapping Challenge will be held in conjunction with a handicapping seminar hosted by HorsePlayer magazine’s Midwest Correspondent M. Scott McMannis, whose daily Arlington Park selections appear in the Chicago Sun-Times.
