Apprentice jockey Paco Lopez gets a return call after riding Awesome Alexandra in all three of her easy victories at the meet, the first two sprinting by more than six lengths each time, and the last at 1 1/16 miles by 2 ½ lengths after that race on June 20 was forced off turf.
One of Awesome Alexandra’s rivals also is moving up from victories in the starter/allowance ranks with owner-trainer Joe Calascibetta’s 4-year-old filly Steady Slew to be ridden by apprentice Marleni Noguera after Paco Lopez rode her in her previous five starts.
Steady Slew is a North Carolina-bred daughter of Mongoose and ran fourth and third in two starts at Gulfstream earlier this year when entered for a $14,000 claiming tag and no takers. She has gotten good back home at Calder in three starts at the meet, finishing second in a ‘two other than’ optional/allowance test similar to Thursday’s conditions and won her last two in starter/allowance company.
Completing the field for Thursday’s race are Roger Urbina’s Holly Go Lively, Juan Leyva; Woodsfield Farm’s Langworthy, Jeffrey Sanchez; A and P Maestro’s Stephaningrid, Manuel Aguilar; Tracy Pinchin’s Sophisticatedevent, Manoel Cruz; and Soldi Stable’s Appealing Runner, Javier Santiago.
