The Bay Area's Indyanne, listed at 12-to-1 on the morning line for Friday's $1 million Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint at Santa Anita, was scratched from the race Thursday morning by trainer Greg Gilchrist.

"She has a slight temperature and a cough and she left a little feed (in her tub)," said Gilchrist via phone from Santa Anita. "It's nothing major and will probably go away quickly, but you can't go into a race of this magnitude not being 100 percent."

Indyanne, a speedy filly who has been victorious in five of her six career starts, was to break from post position two in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint. Gilchrist, like many handicappers, expected her to set the pace in the seven-furlong contest that attracted a very strong field of 14.

"I think we had the fastest horse (out of the gate)," said Gilchrist. "Hanging on for seven furlongs against that group was going to be a tough chore even if you're 100 percent, let alone 75 or 80 percent. It (scratching Indyanne) wasn't a hard decision to make."

Gilchrist, who has competed in three prior Breeders' Cup events, said he is disappointed to be missing the 25th edition of the championship races but added that "it's not the end of the world."

"Like I've always said about this business, 'you never get too high and never get too low,'" said Gilchrist. "You just try to do what's best for the horse."

HYSTERICALADY IS 15-TO-1 IN LADIES CLASSIC -- Northern California's Hystericalady is listed at 15-to-1 on the morning line for Friday's $2 million Breeders' Cup Ladies Classic.
