ALBANY -- It was father-in-law versus son-in-law in the stretch run of the fourth race at Golden Gate Fields Wednesday.

The father-in-law, a Hall of Fame jockey named Russell Baze, prevailed in a photo finish over his son-in-law, Kyle Kaenel. Baze and River Rebel defeated Kaenel and Shining Day by a head in the one-mile race for 3-year-olds and up.

River Rebel and Shining Day hooked up at the top of the stretch and battled head and head to the wire. River Rebel, despite trying to lug into his rival throughout the final furlong, got the bob and paid $3.60 to win as the 4-to-5 favorite.

River Rebel was the second victorious mount of the afternoon for Baze, who won the second race with Just Get'er Done ($3.80). Baze tops the Golden Gate Fields jockey standings with 49 wins through 33 days of racing at the fall season

Kaenel, who married Trinity Baze in September 2007, went 0-for-2 Wednesday and ranks sixth in the standings with 17 victories.

Racing continues at Golden Gate Fields Thursday. Post time is 12:45 p.m.
