ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (May 1, 2009) – Jim Tafel LLC’s Coragil Cat continues to show an affinity for Arlington Park’s all-weather Polytrack surface with his third stakes victory over the surface as the son of Forest Wildcat captured the $53,400 Timeless Native Stakes for the second straight year on Friday, opening day at the suburban Chicago racecourse.

Ridden by Diego Sanchez, the 5-year-old horse overcame a slow break, began to make up ground on the turn before angling out in the stretch to overtake favored Lissa’s Star inside the furlong marker to gain the 1 ¾-length victory, covering the mile in 1:34.83.

The win was the fifth in 28 career starts for the Greg Geier trainee who earned $32,040 to boost her career bankroll to $209,178.

“He's a nice horse, and he loves it here,” said Geier. “He didn't run his best down in New Orleans, but here he does what he does. He just loves it here, he excels, and does it perfect.”

Second choice in the wagering, Coragil Cat paid $7.40, $4 and $3. Lissa’s Star returned $3.20 and $2.20. Lovango paid $2.40.
