The wagering platform, powered by XpressBet, begins operation July 1, and charges no membership, monthly or per-wager fees. Account holders also will be able to access limited free audio and video streaming of races online.
In making the announcement of the new service, Del Mar Thoroughbred Club president and general manager Joe Harper underlined an additional advantage to both horsemen and racing fans who sign up:
"Our commissions from this site will be split 50-50 with our horsemen," Harper said. "The monies we gain from the use of Del Mar Bets will mean purse increases for our owners, trainers and jockeys, which is all the more reason for them -- or anyone who cares about them -- to get on board."
The new wagering platform will offer action on not only the major summer racetracks -- Del Mar, Saratoga, Arlington, Monmouth and others -- but on more than 100 tracks (including harness) throughout the year. Also, wagering on selected international tracks will be available, including races from Australia.
Sign up for a Del Mar Bets account via Del Mar’s website (delmarracing.com) or by calling 800-235-9470.
"We did not enter into this agreement lightly," added DMTC's executive vice president Craig Fravel. "We did our due diligence and clearly determined that XpressBet offered our fans proven technology along with a reputation for providing the best customer service in the business. We've found their people easy to work with, highly motivated and knowledgeable. We believe Del Mar Bets will be a winner."
Del Mar's 37-day racing season runs from Wednesday, July 22 to Wednesday, September 9.
