Wilmington, Del., May 9, 2010 — Ben Mondello’s Kiernan’s Legacy made every step a winning one in the featured $41,000 allowance race at Delaware Park today.

With Julian Pimentel aboard, the 6-year-old son Perigee Moon cut early fractions of 22.71 for the quarter and :45.76 for the half before completing the six furlongs in 1:09.04 over a fast main track. The Ontario-bred conditioned by Scott Lake won by 5 1/4-lengths and returned $5.80 as the second choice in the field of six.

The even money favorite, Elusive Deputy with Joseph Rocco Jr., finished second. It was another half length further back to Filled With Wonder, with Abel Castellano Jr.

The victory gave Kiernan’s Legacy his first win in 2011. His career record is nine wins from 48 starts with earnings of $140,071.

Elite Alex entered on Wednesday card

Elite Alex, once a highly regarded contender on the road to the Kentucky Derby, has been entered in a $41,000 allowance at Delaware Park on Wednesday. In his most recent effort, the 3-year-old son of Afleet Alex finished ninth in the Grade I Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn Park on April 16. Previously, the Ontario-bred conditioned by Delaware Park-based trainer Tim Ritchey, ran fourth in the Grade II Louisiana Derby at the Fair Grounds on March 26. Last year, Elite Alex broke his maiden at Delaware Park in his career debut going five furlongs. He has a record of a win, a second and a third from five starts with earnings of $97,800. He has been installed as the 4-to-5 morning-line favorite in the field of seven.
