MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (Nov. 20, 2011) – Ghislaine Head’s 5-year-old mare Denomination, winner of Graded stakes in each of her last two starts for trainer Christophe Clement, and Barbara Hunter’s Grade 1-placed 4-year-old filly Snow Top Mountain appear to be the horses to beat in a talented field of eight fillies and mares drawn for the $100,000 My Charmer Handicap (G3), highlight of Thursday’s Thanksgiving Day program at Calder Casino & Race Course. First race post time will be early at 11 a.m.

Jockey Joe Bravo will be aboard Denomination in the 1 1/8 miles turf test after winning the Violet Stakes (G3) at Monmouth Park in late May and the Athenia Stakes (G3) at Belmont Park on Oct. 15 in her last two starts. The Kentucky-bred daughter of Smart Strike has won seven of 22 overall for earnings of $489,000.

Jockey Mark Guidry flies in from Kentucky for the mount on Snow Top Mountain for trainer Tom Proctor after they teamed up to win the Kentucky Cup Ladies Turf at Kentucky Downs in September and just missed when third by a head in an ‘off the turf’ allowance at Keeneland on Oct. 26 in her last two starts.

A roan/grey daughter of Najran, Snow Top Mountain has been Graded stakes-placed several times, including a runner-up finish in the Garden City Stakes (G1) at Belmont Park last year. She is half-sister to Hunter’s 5-year-old Keertana, a leader in the national filly and mare turf division in 2010 when third in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1) at Churchill Downs and winner of three Graded stakes on turf early this year.

Two other recent arrivals into South Florida for the winter season entered in the My Charmer are Harlequin Ranches’s 4-year-old Irish-bred filly Oregon Lady with jockey Paco Lopez picking up the mount for trainer Roger Attfield and Marathon Farm’s 4-year-old Grecian Maiden and Elvis Trujillo to ride for trainer Michael Trombetta.

A daughter of Shamardal, Oregon Lady started the season winning an allowance at Keeneland in April and scored in the River Memories Stakes over ‘soft’ turf last out at Woodbine on Oct. 29 for Attfield. The veteran horseman, who winters at Payson Park each year, sent out Perfect Shirl for an upset victory in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf early this month at Churchill Downs.

Leading the team of four Calder-based runners in the My Charmer is Peter Fuller’s 4-year-old homebred Trip for A.J. with the owner-breeder’s daughter Abigail Fuller named to ride for trainer Milt Wolfson. Trip for A.J. is a daughter of Trippi that finished second in this race last year to Askbut I Won’ttell and has an overall record on turf of 11-5-3-1. Trip for A.J. gets back on turf for the first time since May.

Completing the field are Amin Saiden and Monumental Racing’s Performing, Fernando Jara; Gary Aiken’s Callmethesqueeze, Jeffrey Sanchez; and Teresa and David Palmer’s Tesoro de Amor, Juan Leyva.
