OCEANPORT, N.J. * Excitable Miss, a 19-1 outsider, ran down front-running Empress Gracie in the final strides to score a neck victory in the $51,000 allowance feature at Monmouth Park on Thursday.

Excitable Miss, trained by Joe Pierce Jr. and ridden by Elvis Trujillo, raced the one mile and 70 yards in 1:43 3/5 over the fast main track and paid $41.20, $16.60 and $8.80 across the board.

Empress Gracie, off at 9-1, completed the $309.40 exacta and paid $10 to place and $5.80 to show. Sister Shockey, the 8-5 favorite in the field of seven New Jersey-bred fillies and mares, was third, two and a half lengths farther back, and paid $2.80 to show.

This was the first win of the year in five starts for Excitable Miss, a 5-year-old daughter of Why Change who is owned by trainer Pierce. It was her third career victory in 14 starts at Monmouth.
