Just three nights remain of the 2008 Thoroughbred meet at the Meadowlands and the races for top honors are too close to call.

The clearest leader comes in the contest for top jockey, as Jose Lezcano, the 2006 top Big M rider, shows the way. Through Tuesday afternoon's card, Lezcano has 44 wins, six more than Chuck C. Lopez, who took riding championships here in 1979 and 2003. Eddie Castro, last year's top Meadowlands jockey, is third with 28 victories, seven more than nine-time champion Joe Bravo. Rounding out the top five are C. H. Marquez Jr. and Daniel Centeno, each with 20 trips to the winner's circle.

In the trainer's race, two-time Meadowlands conditioning champion Jason Servis is on top with 16 winners, two more than Eddie Broome, who has taken top honors here on four occasions. Ben Perkins Jr. is third with 13 wins, one more than Bruce Levine, last year's top Big M trainer. Tied in fifth are Tim Hills and 2004 leading trainer Patricia Farro, each with nine wins thus far.

The closest contest is for top owner, as Eddie Broome, a perennial leader in this category, shows the way with eight wins, just one more than Repole Stable. Ocean View Stables is just another win back in third.

The Meadowlands will present three more Thoroughbred racing cards: Thursday, Friday and Saturday night - first post 7 p.m.

Awards for the 2008 leading jockey, trainer and owner will be presented on Saturday, when the Meadowlands closes out its 41-day Thoroughbred meet.
