Jockey John R. Velazquez will get aboard Frolic’s Dream for the first time after Jermaine Bridgmohan was in the saddle for all five of her previous career starts for owner-breeder Dare To Dream Stable and trainer Marty Wolfson, winning four times and just missing in a photo in the other.
Richard Rowan’s Renda and William Pacella and partners’ C.S. Silk finished second and fourth, respectively, behind Frolic’s Dream in the Forward Gal and both have won stakes at a mile or more as the favorite tries the distance for the first time.
Jockey Edgar Prado takes a return call on Renda for trainer Juan Arias. The daughter of Medaglia d’Oro won two-turn stakes at Monmouth Park and Calder last year and the Forward Gal was her first start since finishing 10th in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Santa Anita on Oct. 24, her first and only try on turf.
Jockey Kent Desormeaux rides C.S. Silk for the first time as she bids to improve on her effort in the Forward Gal when she finished 13 lengths behind Frolic’s Dream in her first start since finishing second in the Delta Princess Stakes (G3) at Delta Downs on Dec. 5.
C.S. Silk is a daughter of Medaglia d’Oro trained by Dale Romans. She won the Arlington-Washington Lassie (G3) over a one-turn mile on Polytrack at Arlington Park before finishing seventh behind Stardom Bound in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) at Santa Anita on Oct. 24 as she tired after setting the pace to the top of the stretch.
Two intriguing prospects in the field for the Davona Dale will be West Point Thoroughbreds’ Justwhistledixie and Sagamore Farm’s Shared Account with jockeys Alan Garcia and Jeremy Rose to ride, respectively, as both make their South Florida debuts.
Justwhistledixie is by Dixie Union and she has won three straight in New York for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin, most recently the six-furlong Ruthless Stakes by 3½ lengths on the ‘inner track’ at Aqueduct on Jan. 4 after scoring by 3¼ lengths going seven furlongs on the big track there in late November.
Shared Account arrived at trainer Graham Motion’s winter headquarters at Palm Meadows from the Fair Hill training center in Maryland. The daughter of Pleasantly Perfect won both of her starts at Laurel Park as the odds-on favorite, most recently a 1 1/16 miles allowance by seven lengths on Jan. 17 with Rose aboard both times.
Completing the field for the 22nd running of the Davona Dale are Jayeff B Stable’s Stage Trick, C.H. Marquez, Jr.; New Life Stable and partners’ Hopeful Image, Cornelio Velasquez; Edward P. Evans’ Casanova Move, Jose Lezcano; and G. Watts Humphrey Jr.’s Step Out Smartly, Javier Castellano.
