Oceanport, N.J. – Catherine M. Wills’s Funfair battled early with I Am Discreet before putting away that rival and all the rest to capture the $60,000 Colleen Stakes by 3 ¼ lengths at Monmouth Park on Sunday.

Cheered on by a crowd of 13,751, Funfair, conditioned by Christophe Clement, covered the five furlongs over firm turf in :56.68 and paid $3.20, $2.40 and $2.10 as the odds-on choice in the field of eight 2-year-old fillies. I Am Discreet held the place, completing the $9.80 exacta and paying $3.40 and $3.20. It was another head back to hard-charging Doubled, who paid $6.20 to show.

“She’s a really special horse,” said winning jockey Joe Bravo. “You had to be impressed with today’s effort.”

A daughter of More Than Ready from the Distant View mare Fleuron, Funfair is now a perfect two-for-two, earning $78,000 for her connections.

Live racing continues at Monmouth Park on Thursday, Aug. 16 for a twilight program. Gates open 2:30 p.m., first post 4:00 p.m. The Clubhouse will open at 11:30 a.m. for simulcasting.
