OCEANPORT, N.J. * Madara Racing’s Harlequin Sky engaged the leader in midstretch and then drew off to win the $40,000 allowance feature by nearly a length at Monmouth Park on Friday.

The winner, trained by Alan Seewald and ridden by Eddie Castro, raced the mile and a sixteenth over a fast main track in 1:46 flat and paid $9, $2.60 and $2.10 across as second choice in the field of five.

Colonial Kid, the 1-2 favorite who turned into the stretch with a daylight lead, had to settle for second, five lengths in front of Serious Business, the longest shot in the field at 30-1. Colonial Kid completed the $19.40 exacta and paid $2.20 to place and $2.10 to show. Serious Business paid $3.20 to show.

This was the second win of the year in four starts for Harlequin Sky, a 3-year-old son of Harlan’s Holiday who broke his maiden on the turf last time out. Today’s race was transferred to the main track when a ruptured pipe flooded a portion of the turf course, forcing all scheduled grass races onto the dirt track.
