ALBANY -- A holiday weekend of racing at Golden Gate Fields begins Friday with a seven-race Happy Hour program that starts at 3:45 p.m. and features half-price admission, food and drink specials, and live music between races. College students presenting a valid student ID will receive free admission.

Post time Saturday, Sunday and Monday, Labor Day, is 1:15 p.m. Fans attending the Labor Day card will receive a free Golden Gate Fields baseball cap and also have the opportunity to watch Dachshunds compete in the Wiener Nationals.

Golden Gate Fields will present nine races Saturday, 10 races Sunday, and nine races Monday.

The main event Saturday is the fourth race, a 1 1/16-mile turf test. Five of the seven entrants in the allowance race competed in the Joseph T. Grace Handicap at Santa Rosa on Aug. 5. Control Seeker, who scored a 7-1 upset in the Grace, will try to make it back-to-back wins Saturday.

The undefeated 4-year-old gelding Cardiffbythesea will be in the spotlight Sunday when he faces six tough older rivals in the ninth race, a six-furlong allowance sprint. Owned and trained by Lloyd Mason, Cardiffbythesea is 3-for-3. Russell Baze will ride Cardiffbythesea, who overcame a slow start in his most recent race at Santa Rosa to keep his record perfect.

Entries for Monday’s holiday card will be taken Friday morning.
