Ridden by jockey Jose Lezcano, I Lost My Choo had won all three of her starts over the Gulfstream course last winter for trainer Phil Serpe and made it 4-for-4 in her first start since finishing fifth as the favorite in the Lake Placid Stakes (G2) run over yielding ground at Saratoga on Aug. 15.
Farnsworth Stable’s Flibberjibbit finished third in the field of 12 fillies and mares, three-quarters of a length behind the runner-up. The Estate of Harry Aleo’s 5-year-old Wild Promises was the 9-10 favorite invading from California with a six-race win streak, but she tired to 10th after setting a fast pace to the upper stretch.
Winning Jockey Quotes
“She was really excited, really nervous before the race, so the trainer (Phil Serpe) just said to try to settle her down. I thought we were in too much of a (traffic) jam to get out, but she found her way (to the outside) on the final turn and made her push. She especially turned it on the last two furlongs.”
Winning Trainer Quote
“She trained great to come back, and obviously likes it down here. She was three-for-three over the course last year and now she’s four-for-four. She went on and won the Virginia Oaks (G3), but when it rained at Saratoga, that didn’t help (yielding ground). She had had a long campaign by then, maybe getting sour, and as always, Mr. (Carl) Lizza (owner of Flying Zee Stable) always lets you give them time. It was a well-needed break that served its purpose. We’ll talk it over…maybe a race like the Jenny Wiley at Keeneland (Apr. 11) could be next.”
