LEXINGTON, KY (April 25, 2012) – Fletcher and Carolyn Gray’s homebred stakes winner Icon Ike returned to his winning ways when he captured the featured $58,000 Sam-Son Purse for 3-year-olds before a crowd of 10,684. Icon Ike was fifth in the Transylvania (G3) at Keeneland on April 6.

Trained by J. Larry Jones, Icon Ike was the 3-1 co-second choice for the 5½-furlong allowance race on the turf course. The Yes It’s True colt and jockey Robby Albarado made a four-wide move on the final turn and reeled in the leaders down the stretch to win by 1¼ lengths in 1:03.32 over 20-1 shot Blings Express.

Icon Ike returned $8.80, $5.20 and $3.20. Blings Express, ridden by James Graham, paid $14.60 and $5.20. Everyday Dave finished a neck back in third under Gabriel Saez and paid $2.60.

According to Trakus, Icon Ike traveled more ground than any other horse in the race, and still came home fastest, covering the final sixteenth in 6.03 seconds.

The victory improved Icon Ike’s record to four wins in eight starts. He earned $34,800 to push his career bankroll to $136,144.
