A Halloween tradition, the Grey Ghost is a starter handicap reserved strictly for horses grey or roan in color. Originally slated for the turf, the race was moved on to a muddy main track. Il Postino, ridden by Pedro Cotto Jr., covered the mile and a sixteenth distance in 1:43.4 and returned a $4.80 win mutuel.
Il Postino, a 3-year-old son of Distorted Humor, has now won three of 10 career starts for trainer Skip Einhorn and Law Legacy Stables LLC.
Another grey sprinted first to the wire in the co-featured $60,000 Witches' Brew, a race also moved off the grass.
Glitter City, with Joe Bravo up, romped to a three-length victory over Don'tgetsuspicious in the five-furlong event. She was clocked in 57.3 and paid $3.20 to win. The 3-year-old daughter of City Place posted her third win in eight starts this season for trainer Linda Rice and Marsha Naify. Glitter City was the runner-up in the P.G. Johnson Stakes on Oct. 17.
Live racing resumes Monday afternoon at Meadowlands Racetrack. First race: 1:10 p.m.
