Lexington, KY (September 15, 2008) – Hoods Up Stable paid $400,000 for a colt by Indian Charlie to top Monday’s session of Keeneland’s September Yearling Sale.

The colt is out of the Touch Gold mare Touched and from the family of stakes winners Bay Barrister, Four Flings, and Rugged Bugger. He was consigned by John and Martha Jane Mulholland’s Mulholland Springs.

On Monday Keeneland sold 284 horses for gross sales of $18,864,700, down 8.1 percent from 2007 when 288 horses brought $20,517,500. The average of $66,425 was down 6.8 percent from last year’s $71,241, while the median of $50,000 was down 9.1 percent compared to $55,000 in 2007.

Nearing the midpoint of the sale, Keeneland has sold 1,697 horses for $281,336,900, down 13.2 percent from last year’s $324,091,200 when the same number of horses sold. The average of $165,785 was down 13.2 percent from $190,979 in 2007, while the median of $100,000 was down 16.7 percent from last year’s $120,000.

A colt from the first crop of stakes winner Southern Image brought the day’s second-highest price of $290,000 from Third Street Stable. Consigned by Summerfield (Francis and Barbara Vanlangendonck), agent, the colt is a half-brother to Grade 3 stakes winner Dr. Park.

Keeneland’s September Yearling Sale continues through Tuesday, September 23. Sessions begin at 10 a.m. daily.
