Trained by Greg Gilchrist at his Golden Gate Fields base, Indyanne made her first start outside of California in today’s event Summit of Speed event at Calder in Miami, Fla.
Sent off as the heavy favorite, Indyanne paid $3.20, $2.40 and $2.10. Dubai Majesty returned $8.00 and $4.40, while Dancing Allstar paid $2.80 to show.
Winning trainer’s quotes:
Greg Gilchrist — “There’s no doubt she’s a very good filly. I thought the four (Dancing Allstar) would show a little more lick out of the gate than she did and our filly didn’t break as sharp as she usually does, but Russell (Baze) looked very comfortable with where they were (stalking pace). Then, nearing the stretch, when he (Baze) looked under his left arm to see if anybody was coming, I felt pretty confident. This was the logical spot for her to step up and I think she needed it. Now, if all goes well, we’ll look at the Test (Stakes (G1) at Saratoga on Aug. 2), and she’ll have to take another step up there.”
Winning jockey’s quotes:
Russell Baze – “I just let go out there as she pleased and let her get her feet underneath her. This filly is very relaxed even though she’s running fast on the front end, so the fast early pace didn’t bother her. As far as the heat goes she didn’t break a sweat until we started galloping in the post parade. I was especially impressed with the way she finished given that the track is a bit tiring today.”
