Oceanport, N.J. – Cudney Stables and John Gunther’s Klondike Kate drew off down the lane to win the $42,000 allowance optional claiming feature at Monmouth Park on Friday afternoon by a 2 ¾ lengths.

Trained by Allen Iwinski, Klondike Kate covered the six furlongs over a fast track in 1:10 4/5 and returned $6.40, $4.80 and $3.20 as the 2-1 favorite the field of eight fillies and mares. Red Over Blue was second best, completing the $79.80 exacta and paying $13.20 to place and $6.20 to show. It was another 2 ¾ lengths back to Angel Dreams, who paid $3.60 to show.

“I got a perfect trip. It was just the way the trainer told me to ride her,” said winning jockey Roberto Alvarado, Jr. “I sat right off of the speed and waited for as long as I could. Then I made a run through the stretch. I had a lot of horse left. She’s a very nice filly.”

Friday’s win was the second in seven career starts and the second straight since Iwinski took over the training of Klondike Kate, a 3-year-old daughter of Henny Hughes and the Gone West mare Western Reel.

Live racing continues at Monmouth Park on Saturday, August 4 – gates open 11:30 a.m., first post 12:45 p.m.
