OLDSMAR, Fla. (March 24, 2009) As Tampa Bay Downs reaches the three-quarter mark of its 83rd race meet leaders are emerging in the trainers’ and jockeys’ standings.

Daniel Centeno, who set a record last year for number of wins in a singe season with 144 victories to his credit, currently leads the jockey colony with 108 trips to the Winner’s Circle in 71 days of racing; additionally, Centeno is ranked at the time of this writing as the fourth leading rider in the nation by wins. Rosemary Homeister, Jr. is in second place at Tampa Bay Downs with 71 wins, while Ronnie Allen, Jr. is in third with 65 victories. Carlos Montalvo has booted home 50 winners in the current meet to rank fourth in the riders’ standings, and Tampa newcomer James Lopez rounds out the top five riders with 28 wins to his credit.

Last year’s leading conditioner Jamie Ness is once again in front for the 2008-2009 race meet at Tampa Bay Downs, having haltered 49 wins thus far. Kirk Ziadie, who led the trainer standings in the 2005 -2006 Tampa meet, is in second place with 35 wins to his credit. Trainers Gerald Bennett and Greg Griffith are tied for third place in the trainers’ standings with 25 wins each, and Kathleen O’Connell is in fifth place with a 19 win tally.

Racing resumes tomorrow, March 25 with a ten race card. The Silks Poker Room is open daily from 12:30 PM through 12:30 AM, and The Downs Golf Practice Facility is open on Mondays from 10:00 AM through 10:00 PM and on Tuesdays through Sundays from 8:30 AM through 10:00 PM.
