Light Up the Sky defeated front-running Sweet Nothings by a half-length as trainer Jerry Hollendorfer saddled the exacta in the one-mile race for 3-year-old fillies. Ms Pianist finished third.
Light Up the Sky, a chestnut daughter of Speightstown, was bred in California by her owners, Tommy Town Thoroughbreds. She earned $23,400 for Thursday’s win and has made $71,162 in eight career starts.
Sweet Nothings has finished second in four straight races, a streak that began with runner-up finishes in the Corte Madera Stakes and the California Oaks.
Hollendorfer sent out the first two finishers in a pair of races Thursday. In addition to accomplishing the feat in the featured third race, “The Dorf” duplicated the trick in the fifth race when Soul Patch ($10.80) edged stablemate She’s All Yours by one length in a six-furlong sprint for fillies and mares.
Jockey Frank Alvarado had a riding triple Thursday. Alvarado won the first race with Rockaway Moon ($8.80), the fifth with Soul Patch, and the seventh with Lince Prieto ($10.20).
Racing continues at Golden Gate Fields Friday. Post time is 12:45 p.m.
