EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. * After stalking the early pacesetters Eddie Broome’s Lucky James engaged the frontrunners around the turn and powered past his rivals at the top of the stretch before drawing off to a 5 ½ length win in the $51,000 allowance feature at the Meadowlands on Monday afternoon.

Trained by his owner and ridden by C. H. Marquez Jr., Lucky James covered the six furlongs over a fast main track in 1:10 4/5 and returned $5, $3.80 and $2.10 as the second choice in the field of six colts and geldings.

General Perfect prevailed in a blanket finish for second, completing a $50.80 exacta and paying $13.60 and $4.20. It was a neck back to Pass This, one half of the odds-on entry, who paid $2.10 to show.

Monday’s win marked the third in seven starts for Lucky James, a homebred by Sultry Song from the North Prospect mare Zul.

Live racing continues at the Meadowlands on Tuesday, November 11 * first post 1:10 p.m.
