East Rutherford, NJ [Oct. 23, 2009] - Lucky James chased the leaders down in the final strides to win the six-furlong, $65,000 Eillo Stakes on Friday night at Meadowlands Racetrack

Ridden by Carlos Marquez Jr., Lucky James sat third behind Mister Triester and Easy Gallop as they eased the field through opening splits of :22.3 and :45. Lucky James left the rail as they arrived at the quarter pole, swung three-wide in the stretch and edged past Easy Gallop for a half-length victory in 1:08.3. He paid $6.80 to win and $3.80 to place. Easy Gallop returned $3.20 to place and completed a $17.60 exacta. A game Mister Triester finished a neck behind them in third. There was no show wagering on the race, which was scratched down to four starters.

Ed Broome owns and trains Lucky James, a New Jersey-bred son of Sultry Song out of the North Prospect mare Zul. The 4-year-old gelding, who won the NJ Breeders Handicap on Aug. 23 at Monmouth Park, posted his third straight win and seventh in 14 career starts. His bankroll is now $294,894.
