INGLEWOOD, Calif. (May 13, 2009) — Mark S the Cooler closed from fourth in the final furlong under jockey Rafael Bejarano to win Wednesday’s $50,000 allowance feature by a nose, completing a hat-trick for trainer Doug O’Neill at Hollywood Park.

Bejarano moved Mark S the Cooler from the rail to the middle of the course turning for home and he caught pacesetter Santamonicacanyon at the wire while covering one mile on turf in 1:35.60.

O’Neill, the leading trainer at the 64-day Spring/Summer Meet with 11 wins through 15 racing days, also saddled first-race winner Classical Slew and second-race winner Mikey Bones.

Mark S the Cooler, a 3-year-old gelded son of Johar, paid $3.80, $2.60 and $2.10. Santamonicacanyon returned $3 and $2.40, while the show payoff on pacesetter Del Conte was $2.60.

The victory — worth $30,000 — boosted Mark S the Cooler’s earnings to $90,080. He has won two of eight starts.

Tyler Baze rode three winners on the program, including 10-1 shot Leesider, one of several longshots which helped set up a Pick Six carryover of $74,849 when racing resumes Thursday at Hollywood Park. First post time is 1 p.m.
