Saturday’s 69th running of the $65,000-added Correction Stakes will feature two horses that have managed to transfer their training form from the all-weather surface at Fair Hill, Md. to the dirt tracks of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast with positive results.

For Jeff Singer’s A Rose for You, the Correction, a six-furlong sprint for fillies and mares, will mark not only her seasonal debut but her first start on Aqueduct’s inner dirt track.

In the past, the Big A’s inner track was purely a speed track. But this meet, another Maryland shipper, New York Racing Association Director of Racing Surfaces Glen Kozak, has maintained a fair track in the face of fickle winter weather. A Rose for You, a 4-year-old daughter of Orientate, has speed but did not show it last time when she ran second at Mountaineer, ending a three-race winning streak for trainer Michael Trombetta.

The second horse up from Fair Hill is Blowing Kisses, a 4-year-old Vindication filly who is back for, well, vindication, following a third-place finish on New Year’s Day in the Interborough.

Trained by Jeff Barkley, a native of Indiana whose family has always been involved in training horses, Blowing Kisses was a welcome addition to the barn back in the fall.

“I came into the picture on October 15,” Barkley said. “I had worked for Larry Jones for three years, and Larry had the Fox Hill horses and Vinery horses; this one is partly-owned by Vinery.

“She has run real well for us. The Interborough was a good race for her. She stumbled a little at the start, but then she made a nice run to get third. And (winner) Zada Belle is a real nice horse. Blowing Kisses has been training well for us. Personally, I prefer to train on dirt, but it’s nice to have the Tapeta track to train on when the weather isn’t cooperating. She had a three-eighths work here on the Tapeta track on Friday (37.46, breezing). We’ll ship up on Saturday.”

Trainer Bruce Levine is running Coli Bear back on the inner track in the Correction, following her fifth-place finish in the Interborough. Coli Bear, a 6-year-old Formal Dinner mare, was purchased last January and turned over to trainer Steve Klesaris. She joined Levine’s team in late spring.

“I had a stable at Monmouth Park and felt that she fit that program there pretty well,” he said. “She won, then got beat, then ran good at Finger Lakes and even had a pretty good race in the mud at Philadelphia Park.

“I really can’t tell you why she ran the way she did in the Interborough. That was her first bad race for me, and I don’t want to make up excuses for her.”

Coli Bear has a record of 2-0-1 from five starts on Aqueduct’s inner track.

“It’s been a different year on the inner track,” Levine said. “She’s a speed horse, and I’m not going to change her style now or try to stretch her out around two turns. The inner track has been different this year. You don’t get those merry-go-round tracks; in fact, there are more and more horses winning from off the pace.”

While Coli Bear had been ridden by Rajiv Maragh in recent starts, she will be ridden on Saturday by C. C. Lopez, who is known as an outstanding speed rider.

“That should tell you what our plan is on Saturday,” Levine said.

Maragh has picked up a mount on Distorted Passion, who will try for her third straight victory for trainer Todd Pletcher. The 4-year-old Distorted Humor filly had campaigned on synthetic tracks out West and in the Midwest before winning an overnight stakes here on December 14 under Maragh.

Trainer Anthony Dutrow will saddle Edward P. Edwards’ Intentional Fever, who edged Blowing Kisses by a head to finish second in the Interborough. Winless in six starts since September 5, 2007, the 5-year-old Stormin Fever mare has been worse than third only four times in 14 starts.

Richard Migliore has the mount from post 3.

Completing the field is Awesome Chic, who will break from post 5 under Orlando Bocachica.
