The whimsical appeal of the 2009 Preakness logo lay in its simple color palette, contrasting the traditional combination of yellow and black, so emblematic of the Preakness, and Maryland’s favorite bloom, the Black-Eyed Susan. The clean and fluid lines emphasize the graceful movement of thoroughbred racing, while showcasing the cherished and iconic symbols of Preakness: the historic Pimlico clubhouse cupola, a prominent Black-Eyed Susan flower and the classic horse and rider.
"We always try to portray the very strong event equity that the Preakness Stakes has built up over 133 previous runnings as well as its singular status as the only race in the country that is pivotal to a potential Triple Crown," says Bob Leffler, agency president/owner.
