Miss Charm City seized the lead from Graceful Ginger as the pair raced into the turn and sped away to victory in the $50,000 Gin Talking Stakes for Maryland-bred 2-year-old fillies at Laurel Park.

Miss Charm City, a chestnut daughter of Bowman’s Band who is owned by the Estate of James Glenn, upped her record to two wins in two starts for trainer Carlos Garcia and jockey Horacio Karamanos. She completed the 5-1/2 furlong distance over a sloppy track in 1:06.87, 6-3/4 lengths ahead of Lemeaskuaquestion, who edged Graceful Ginger for the place. Miss Charm City paid $7.60.

“My horse broke sharp,” said Karamanos. “The Charles Town horse (Lemeaskuaquestion) had speed so I wanted to make sure we got a solid start. At the break she went and did it nice and easy. When I asked her to go, she finished strong.

Garcia indicated Miss Charm City would race next in the $150,000 Maryland Million Lassie at Laurel Park on October 4.

“We see a lot of future for her,” said Garcia, who saddled his 131st career stakes winner. “I don’t like to push babies but she won impressively first time out (August 13) where she beat a lot of decent horses and now she’s won this one. We are really looking forward to her next race.”

Saturday’s nine-race card was completed despite two inches of rain and wind gusts of up to 36 miles per hour due to the arrival of Tropical Storm Hanna at the central Maryland track.
