NICKSAPPEALINGLADY SET FOR TURF DEBUT IN BOILING SPRINGS; TALKIN ABOUT LOVE TOPS SPRUCE FIR; JULY PASS GIVEAWAY SUNDAY

OCEANPORT, N.J. * Nicksappealinglady, who has won three times on wet main tracks, is scheduled to make her turf debut in Saturday’s $150,000 Boiling Springs Stakes (G3) * Talkin About Love looks to get back to her winning ways in Saturday’s Spruce Fir Handicap for New Jersey-breds * Weekend activities at Monmouth include a $100 handicapping contest on Saturday and a Miller Lite Month of July grandstand pass giveaway on Sunday.

NICKSAPPEALINGLADY A GO RAIN OR SHINE SATURDAY

Rain or shine, trainer Gregg Sacco will be happy Saturday when Capilupi Racing’s Nicksappealinglady goes in the $150,000 Boiling Springs Stakes (G3).
The race for 3-year-old fillies is slated for a mile and a sixteenth on the grass, and Nicksappealinglady will be making her turf debut against a very tough field. But summer weather has a way of changing track conditions in a hurry, and the daughter of Successful Appeal has won three times on wet tracks.
“We wouldn’t be overly disappointed if the race came off the grass and she had to wait a little longer to make her turf debut,” said Sacco, “but I really do want to try her on the grass. We’ve been trying to run on the turf all winter. In fact, she broke her maiden at the Fair Grounds in a race that came off the grass.
“She’s worked well on the grass here, and I really would like to get her to run on it. This is a tough spot, but she’s a quality filly and deserves a chance.”
The filly’s only bad outing in a seven-race career came last out in the Little Silver Stakes * which came off the turf and was run on a muddy main track. Nicksappealinglady showed her usual speed, but then stopped badly in the stretch.
“Her tongue got over the bit,” Sacco said, “and maybe that’s the reason she threw in a clunker. We’ll use a tongue-tie for this race.”
The filly gets a new rider Saturday in Elvis Trujillo, who returned to Monmouth Park this week after spending the past month in Kentucky.

TALKIN ABOUT LOVE LOOKS TO GET BACK TO WINNING WAYS

Talkin About Love was the New Jersey-bred standout of 2007, when she became the first state-bred filly ever to win the Monmouth Breeders’ Cup Oaks (G3), her fifth victory of the season.
But that August 12 score was the last, and since then she’s had three straight thirds * in the Grade 2 Cotillion at Philly Park and the Inside Information Breeders’ Cup Stakes here last fall, and Monmouth’s Open Mind Handicap on May 26, her only start of this year.
“This third stuff is getting very old,” said Kevin Sleeter, who is the breeder, owner and trainer of the 4-year-old filly. “She needs to win again.”
Talkin About Love will get her chance in Saturday’s $60,000 Spruce Fir Handicap, when she carries topweight of 125 pounds against a competitive field of New Jersey-bred fillies and mares.
She’ll stretch out to a mile and 70 yards in her second start of the season, a distance more suitable to her talents. The Open Mind, in which she ran a closing third, was at six furlongs.
“She’s only had the one start this year because I was waiting for a long race for her,” Sleeter said. “I think she’s fit enough. She worked seven furlongs (in 1:26 1/5) last week, and galloped out the mile in 1:40, and Stew (jockey Stewart Elliott) said she did it easy. Now we’ll see if she stayed fit.”
Talkin About Love, a chestnut daughter of Not For Love * She’s Jane, by Northern Idol, had one of her worst outings in the Inside Information on Oct. 26, run on a very sloppy racetrack.
“She doesn’t like a wet track, that’s for sure,” Sleeter said. “I don’t know what the weather’s going to do Saturday, so I also entered her in the stakes race on Sunday ($70,000 Lighthouse Stakes) just in case the track comes up sloppy Saturday. I really do want to run her this weekend.”

HANDICAPPING CONTEST, GRANDSTAND PASS GIVEAWAY THIS WEEKEND

A full slate of activities is on tap at Monmouth Park this weekend, with a $100 handicapping contest slated for Saturday, and the Miller Lite Month of July grandstand pass giveaway on Sunday.
The handicapping contest is open to all, and the total fee is $100 ($40 entry fee and $60 contest bankroll). Grand prize will consist of cash and a berth in the 2009 World Series Handicapping Contest in Las Vegas. The top 10 finishers all receive prize money.
On Sunday, all paid admissions will receive a grandstand pass valid for the entire month of July. Sunday is also Family Fun Day at Monmouth, with free pony rides, face painters, clowns and an inflatable bounce house. Live music will be provided “On the Green” by the Mike Dalton Band.
