For the second time this year, Belmont Park will play host to a $1 million Pick 6 Carryover when it opens its doors on Wednesday, October 22 for the start of the final five day of racing in the 2008 Belmont Park Fall Championship Meet.

There was a $394,437.01 carryover going into Sunday’s card. Prime Obsession ($15.20) won Sunday’s 10th race under jockey Jeffrey Sanchez, and because no one correctly picked all six winners of races 5-10 on Sunday – 5 of 6 returned $4,732 -- Wednesday’s carryover will be $1,019,102.24.

Back on June 11 during the Spring/Summer meet, there was a Pick 6 Carryover from Belmont Stakes Day on June 7 of $1,186,625. That lured another $3,217,655 for a non-Breeders’ Cup New York record pool of $4,404,280. When favored Ten Forty came home in the ninth race, 29 winning tickets were worth $103,754 each. Not one was sold on track.

The Pick 6 is a $2 minimum wager in which the bettor must correctly pick the winner of six consecutive races.

In 2005, Belmont Park hosted the Breeders’ Cup and that day, the total pool of the Breeders’ Cup Ultra Pick 6 reached $4,856,700. There were no tickets with all six winners. There were 40 correct tickets with five winners for a payout of $90,325.

Hollywood Park holds the North American record Pick 6 pool of $10,870,852.60 on July 2, 2007. That pool was generated by a record four-day carryover of $3,274,505.48 and a record single-day Pick 6 handle of $7,596,347.12.
