NEW ORLEANS (Monday, August 13, 2012) – Nine trial races for the $150,000-estimated Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association Sales Futurity highlight Opening Day of the Summer Quarter Horse meet Wednesday at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots. A total of 81 juveniles purchased out of LQHBA sales are entered for the trials, with the 10 fastest times moving on to the final.

The first trial of the day, Race 2 on the 10-race program, features a rematch between the top two finishers from Delta Downs’ Grade 2 Laddie Futurity – Coltins Fast Dash and Dashin Forward – both of whom were subsequently disqualified from purse money.

Logans Mountain, 5-2 favorite in Race 6, is the lone stakes winner on the card after taking the $60,000 Louisiana Juvenile Stakes, consolation to the Grade 1 Lee Berwick Futurity, at Delta in July.

The LQHBA Sales Futurity final will be the feature race on Closing Day, Sept. 1.

First post Wednesday is 12:40 p.m. The Oaks Grill on the third floor of the Grandstand will offer $1.75 hamburger and $1.75 draft beer specials every day of the meet except Saturday, when there’s a special 4 p.m. post time for an evening card with exhibition races featuring camels, ostriches and mascots. General admission is free every day except Saturday.
