All through the lane Saturday afternoon, jockey Ramon Dominguez kept looking back to see if there was any competition coming for Fox Hill Farm’s front-running favorite Old Fashioned. All he saw a growing distance between his mount and the six other horses entered in Aqueduct’s 95th running of the Grade 2, $200,000 Remsen for two-year-olds at nine furlongs.

Now, there is something to look forward to.

Under a hard hold until less than a furlong to go, Old Fashioned needed only one tap of Dominguez’s left-handed whip to keep straight and go on to a 7 ¼-length victory. Undefeated in three starts, the Unbridled’s Song colt stamped himself as a three-year-old to watch this spring, as he has now won at two turns and at a mile and an eighth.

“The horse had a perfect trip,” saiad trainer J. Larry Jones, as Old Fashioned set an uncontested pace of 24.41, 49.44, 1:14.18, 1:38.11 and win in 1:50.33 on the fast main track “The fractions up front were very realistic. They let us run out there pretty easy. I was very grateful to see the fractions, especially as they came around the far turn.”

Old Fashioned paid $3.50 for each $2 win ticket.

“Once he made the lead, I took a peek back, hit him one time and he took off,” Dominguez said. “It was pretty impressive. Larry (Jones, trainer) described him perfectly. Judging by today, there is no telling how far he can go.”

Atomic Rain, at better than 14-1 was second, two and a half lengths ahead of American Dance

“I think he’s got a pretty bright future ahead of him,” said Miguel Santiago, assistant to trainer Kelly Breen. “We’ll take him to Florida for the winter, re-group and look ahead to next year.”

Idol Maker was fourth, followed by Hold Me Back, Rip Rap and Awesome Mich.
