The featured 1200m sprint handicap, however, was won by the Satish Seemar-trained Escape Route who was ridden by Robbie Burke in the absence of an unwell Kevin Shea.
The jockey was delighted: “He has done that nicely in the end and it was a great spare ride obviously – though you have to feel sorry for Kevin (Shea).
The Al Muhairi/Smith combination won the opening 1000m handicap with Belpasso, the 1200m handicap with Go On Be A Tiger (in the trainer’s colours) and the concluding 1600m handicap with Liwa to crown a great afternoon.
Smith explained: “We knew we had good chances throughout the afternoon and all the horses have run well. All three had shown form on the course previously which is so important here at Jebel Ali.”
The ride of the afternoon was that of Willie Supple when making all on the Abdulla Bin Huzaim-trained Step In Line, while Ali Rashid Al Raihe’s Skycap won the 1400m maiden under Royston Ffrench.
