ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 11, 2009)—HRTV’s Jeff Seigel has been called many things during his nearly 40-year career in Thoroughbred racing: owner, breeder, publicist, television analyst and perhaps most importantly, Southern California’s most entertaining handicapper. All of these descriptions will serve fans well when they visit Seigel’s daily horse racing blog at

“The blog is a work in progress,” said the always-upbeat Seigel. “We’re going to be adding things every week, but for now, I will have a daily handicap and analysis of the following day’s races up the night before race-day.

“We’re also going to be including a lot of HRTV programming, which will include personal features, interviews and handicapping information. Like I say, it’s a work in progress, but we’re going to have fun with it and our goal is to offer fans something different every day and to provide things that aren’t available anywhere else,” he added.

Seigel’s blog is just a part of several significant changes made recently to Santa Anita’s website. “We are in the process of completely overhauling the website,” said Santa Anita Vice President of Marketing Allen Gutterman. “Our primary objective is to keep the material updated, fresh and entertaining. We know this is a great tool for us and we believe a great service to our fans.

“Nobody can analyze races like Jeff Seigel. Not only does he have a great opinion, he has a sense of humor and brevity that we believe make this blog compelling in many ways. We are very excited about having Jeff involved throughout the meet, and as he says, the blog and indeed the entire website is a work in progress. We’re confident Jeff is going to be very well received and we look forward to working with him on the overall development of the product into the future,” Gutterman added.

Santa Anita’s 84-day winter/spring meeting will conclude on April 19.
