OCEANPORT, N.J. * Paradise Tonight charged down the center of the track in deep stretch and rolled on to a nearly four-length victory in the $51,000 allowance feature at Monmouth Park on Friday.
The winner, trained by Joe Pierce Jr. and ridden by Elvis Trujillo, raced the one mile and 70 yards in 1:42 1/5 over the fast main track, and paid $6.80, $3.40 and $3.40 across the board as second choice in the field of seven fillies and mares.
Sister Shockey, the 9-5 favorite, had to settle for second, returning $3 to place and $2.40 to show and completing the $24.60 exacta. Empress Gracie, a 30-1 shot who made all the early running, faded to third, three and a quarter lengths farther back, and paid $8.20 to show.
It was the third win of the meet in four starts here for Paradise Tonight, owned by Wark, Anfuso & Pierce. The 3-year-old daughter of Slew Gin Fizz won twice here in June, and was third last out in a similar race on July 9.
