After a stretch-long battle in Saturday’s $150,000 Swale Stakes (G2) at Gulfstream Park, Harold Queen’s homebred 3-year-old Big Drama prevailed by a half-length over Paul Pompa Jr.’s This Ones for Phil in track-record time, but was disqualified and placed second after a stewards’ inquiry.

Big Drama was away alertly early in the seven-furlong test in his first start since winning the Delta Jackpot (G3) in early December and fought back bravely when challenged by This Ones for Phil in the stretch. Homewrecker Stable’s Custom for Carlos finished third in the field six, 4½ lengths behind the runner-up.

This Ones for Phil paid $5.20 to win as the slight choice over Big Drama at 9-5. Trained by Rick Dutrow, This One for Phil is a son of Untuttable who won the Sunshine Millions Dash here in January but disappointed last out when fifth in the Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2) on Feb. 28.

A son of Montbrook trained by David Fawkes, Big Drama was timed in track-record time of 1:20:88 over the fast track

Winning Jockey Quotes

Garrett Gomez This Ones for Phil:

“The horse ran a beautiful race. I was looking out for the two (BZ Warrior). We got a good break. I was asking the horse for a little at the half (mile) point and we got going some. He (Big Drama) clearly bumped me. All you have to do is watch the tape. In fact he bumped me twice. He did it at the eighth pole and again about 50 yards before the wire.” (Note: winning trainer Rick Dutrow was at Keeneland Saturday.)

Trainer Quote

David Fawkes (Big Drama)-DQ to second:

“What I saw was a new track record and I got taken down. Should he have stayed up? I don’t know. I have to watch it again.”
