Owned by breeder Joan Hadley Thoroughbreds and trained by Kathy Walsh, the 2-year-old daughter of Leroidesanimaux and the Luhuk mare Sarasota angled off the inside in the stretch and ran past the pacesetter, who was 3-10, in the final yards.
Ridden by David Flores, Sarah’s Secret returned $7 and $2.40. The place price on Tales in Excess, who had defeated maidens by 4 ½ lengths in her Del Mar debut on Sept. 4, was $2.10. There was no show wagering.
The Mike Harrington-trained duo of Swiss Wild Cat and Hi Ho Yodeler completed the order of finish.
An off-the-pace winner in her initial try at Del Mar on Aug. 22, Sarah’s Secret, who won by a half-length, increased her earnings to $54,000.
Racing continues Friday evening. Post time is 7:05 p.m.
At the conclusion of the eight race program – approximately 10:30 p.m. – a concert starring Morris Day and the Time will begin at the North Park Lawn.
