However, it was Rashed Bouresly’s Star Crowned who won the afternoon’s featured 1000m sprint under Tadhg O’Shea, denying stable companion League Champion.
Bouresly hinted that a trip to Hong Kong next month could well be on the agenda.
The opening 1600m handicap was won by Doug Watson’s Tri Another Cat, providing jockey Fernando Jara with a winner on his first ride on the course.
He was chased home by stable companion Tabreed and Watson was pleased: “Both horses love it here and Fernando (Jara) has done everything right.”
Adi Selvaratnam combined with local apprentice Ahmad Ajtebi to win the 1200m handicap with Mash’Hoor but it was brother Dhruba who took the training plaudits.
Chun Tosaigh won the 1200m maiden in the hands of William Buick to open his account at the seventh attempt before Selvaratnam landed the two 1400m handicaps for his main patron, Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Buick was again in the saddle on Mannjal who won the last, thirty minutes after Daragh O’Donohoe had steered Dahteer to success over the same course and distance.
Buick said: ‘It is nice to ride a double at my first on our local track and for the yard to get three is great. Things have started well for me in the UAE.”
