NEW ORLEANS (Saturday, November 21, 2009) – Tri-Star Racing’s Sheza Sexy A.P., never far back, responded to the urging of jockey Jamie Theriot when set down for the drive to win Saturday’s six-furlong prep for the upcoming $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Lassie at Fair Grounds on Dec. 12 by a half-length.

Trained by Wes Hawley, who was saddling his second winner of the day, Sheza Sexy A.P. paid $17.40, $7.40 and $3.60 while accomplishing the six-furlong distance over the track listed as “muddy” in 1:11.16. The accredited Louisiana-bred 2-year-old filly increased her career earnings to $50,700 with her second victory in five lifetime starts.

“She’s a nice filly,” said Theriot immediately after the race. “She broke well, maintained a good stalking position, and then responded well for me when I asked her in the stretch. She’ll be a good one.”

Merrill Scherer and Dan Lynch’s Oh Whata Holiday, who gained the advantage at the eighth pole, could not withstand the winner late but was easily second best, finishing four lengths to the good of favored Envoy’s Running, who made the pace with early splits of 21.82 and 45.85 before weakening in the lane.

Oh Whata Holiday paid $3.80 and $2.80 and Envoy’s Running returned $2.80 for the show.

Racing resumes Sunday for the ninth day of the Fair Grounds 2009-2010 Thoroughbred Racing Season Presented by Miller Lite. First post for the 10-race program is 12:30 p.m.
