ALBANY -- Smarty Corn, rated smartly on the lead by jockey Francisco Duran, posted a wire-to-wire victory in the $35,685 allowance feature at Golden Gate Fields Sunday in front of a festive crowd of 9,346.

The attendance for the Hispanic Heritage Day program was the second-largest gathering at Golden Gate Fields in 18 years. A Sunday crowd of 11,462 attended the track on April 5, 2009.

Smarty Corn extended her winning streak to three races with her front-running score in the 1 1/16-mile turf contest for fillies and mares. Trained by Bob Hess, Smarty Corn defeated Noise of the Crowd by 2 1/2 lengths while finishing in 1:44.23. Noise of the Crowd took second by a neck over Bellamine.

Smarty Corn was taking a class rise Sunday and returned $13.40 after being dismissed at 5-1 in the wagering. Owned in partnership by Daxton Corn and Mike Moreno, Smarty Corn earned $19,500.

Smarty Corn, a Kentucky-bred daughter of Smarty Jones, has four victories in nine career starts.

Racing at Golden Gate Fields will resume Thursday when the track kicks off the final week of action at the 2011-2012 winter/spring meeting. Post time is 1:15 p.m.
