HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Jockeys Paco Lopez and Antonio Gallardo were taken to Memorial Regional Hospital Saturday evening after both were involved in a spill in the 11th race.
Lopez, Gallardo and jockey Luis Jurado were involved in a spill at the top of the stretch in the 7 ½ furlong turf event. Jurado walked off the course and back to the jockey’s room under his own power.
Lopez, Gulfstream’s leading rider last season, and Gallardo, who’s ridden four winners from 70 mounts, were both conscious and moving their extremities. Both were transported to Memorial Regional for further observation.
The rider’s three horses – Morediamindsplease, Miracle At Sea and Little Bailey – were not injured.
