INGLEWOOD, Calif. (April 28, 2012)—Making his first start for new connections after being claimed Feb. 25, Streakin’ Mohican established a course record for six furlongs on turf Saturday at Betfair Hollywood Park.
Quickly establishing command under jockey Rafael Bejarano, the 5-year-old gelded son of Songandaprayer was never menaced and won by 5 ¼ lengths.
Despite being taken in hand well before the finish, Streakin’ Mohican, who was taken for $32,000 by a partnership that includes trainer Bill Spawr, stopped the clock in 1:07.24. This bettered the previous record of 1.07.54 set by Scottsbluff in the Robert K. Kerlan Memorial Handicap July 15, 2007.
The victory was the eighth in 29 starts for the Florida bred, who was the 17-10 favorite in the $32,000 claimer, the seventh of 10 races.
Now 2-for-3 over the Betfair Hollywood Park grass, Streakin’ Mohican was claimed once more Saturday. Trainer Wilton Whitehouse took the chestnut for owner Robert Rosette.
