Belmont will conduct six graded stakes on Saturday, and five of them are part of the Pick 6 sequence.
The Pick 6 continues with the Grade 1, $400,000 Vosburgh Invitational, a six-furlong dash. Poseidon’s Warrior and Sean Avery, who have won the past two editions of the Grade 1 Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap, will meet in the Vosburgh.
Nine talented turf runners were entered in the Grade 1, $600,000 Flower Bowl Invitational for fillies and mares. Trainer Chad Brown, who won the 2011 Flower Bowl with Stacelita, will look to add to his trophy collection when he sends out Dream Peace and Zagora in this year’s renewal.
Point of Entry is the morning-line favorite for the Grade 1, $600,000 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational off his smashing scores in the Grade 1 Man o’ War and Grade 1 Sword Dancer Invitational. He’ll have to track down front-running Little Mike, who took the Grade 1 Arlington Million in his most recent start.
The Grade 1, $1 million TVG Jockey Club Gold Cup crowns the stellar card, and Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott has the top two morning-line selections in 2011 Gold Cup winner Flat Out and 2012 Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap and Grade 1 Stephen Foster Handicap hero Ron the Greek. The race also drew this year’s Grade 1 Donn Handicap winner Hymn Book and Grade 1 Whitney Invitational Handicap victor Fort Larned.
A maiden special weight for New York-breds completes the Pick 6, with 12 horses, excluding those entered for the main track only, entered in the 1 1/16-mile turf race.
The only graded stakes not in the Pick 6 sequence is the Grade 1, $400,000 Beldame Invitational. The Beldame, the fifth race on the card, will serve as the fifth meeting between Royal Delta and It’s Tricky
Those who wish to play the Pick 6 can place their bets at Belmont or Aqueduct Racetrack, or through NYRA Rewards, which offers Internet, On-Track, Phone, and Mobile wagering.
