East Rutherford, NJ [Oct. 24, 2009] - Tar Heel Mom dueled with Bold Union to the eighth pole and drew off to win the $65,000 Seton Hall University Stakes Saturday night at Meadowlands Racetrack.

Ridden by Jose Lezcano, Tar Heel Mom vied outside of Bold Union through preliminary fractions of :27, :44.2 and :56.1 before kicking away to a 4 1/2-length victory in a final 1:08.4 clocking. The Stan Hough trainee paid $7.20 to win the six-furlong feature. Fearless Leader bested a weakening Bold Union for the runner-up spot.

"She broke (out of the gate) good and the speed was holding up tonight, so I didn't think too much about it," Lezcano said. "I knew I had it in the bag, my filly was feeling so comfortable. When I asked her, she gave me everything she had and I knew she had plenty left."

Tar Heel Mom, a 4-year-old daughter of Flatter out of the Sunny's Halo mare Perpetual Light, has now won five of 14 career starts and $251,692.

Live racing resumes Monday with a 1:10 p.m. first post. The track is closed Sunday. Simulcast wagering is available at Monmouth Park, Favorites at Woodbridge and New Jersey Account Wagering/4njbets.com.
