Three Northern California horses are among the record 180 runners pre-entered in the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships, which will be held Oct. 24-25 at Santa Anita.

Indyanne and Hystericalady will compete on Friday, Oct. 24, when five Breeders' Cup events restricted to fillies and mares are contested. Indyanne, trained by Greg Gilchrist, is entered in the $1 million Filly and Mare Sprint. Hystericalady, trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, is entered in the $2 million Ladies Classic.

Bold Chieftain will run on Saturday, Oct. 25, when nine open (either sex is eligible to run) Breeders' Cup races will be held. Bold Chieftain, trained by William J. Morey, Jr., is entered in the $2 million Mile.

Indyanne is one of 15 entrants in the Filly and Mare Sprint, a seven-furlong contest that is shaping up as an extremely tough heat. Owned by David and Jill Heerensperger, Indyanne has won five of her six career starts and likely would be undefeated had she not started poorly in the Victory Ride Stakes at Saratoga. Indyanne finished second in the Victory Ride, beaten a half-length.

Indian Blessing, a multiple Grade 1 stakes winner who has earned more than $2 million while winning eight of her 10 lifetime starts, heads a roster of 15 candidates for the Filly and Mare Sprint.

Hystericalady is one of seven runners signed up to face undefeated Zenyatta in the 1 1/8-mile Ladies Classic. Owned in partnership by Hollendorfer and Rancho San Miguel, Hystericalady has won half of her 22 career starts and $2,340,556. Hystericalady finished second to Zenyatta in the Lady's Secret Stakes at Santa Anita on Sept. 27 and hopes to turn the tables in the Breeders' Cup.

Morey owns Bold Chieftain in partnership with Dwaine Hall, Ernest Langbein and Kenneth Robinson. An invite from Breeders' Cup officials prompted Morey's partners to make Bold Chieftain a surprise entrant in the Mile, which has 14 horse pre-entered.

"We had a meeting (among the owners) and the group voted to run," said Morey. "I was really on the fence but I don't want to spoil it for the group. They want to enjoy the day and enjoy the Breeders' Cup. We'll be going with Russell Baze as a very long price (on the tote board) in the Mile. I'm sure it will be a very exciting day."

Bold Chieftain, a 5-year-old horse by Chief Seattle, has 11 wins and four seconds in 22 career races and will enter the Breeders' Cup Mile off a second-place finish in the California Cup Mile.

ALL AMERICAN GRADS IN BREEDERS' CUP -- Delightful Kiss and Awesome Gem, who ran one-two in the All American Stakes at Golden Gate Fields on Sept. 27, are both pre-entered in Breeders' Cup races.

Delightful Kiss is among the 14 horses eligible for the 1 1/2-mile Marathon. Awesome Gem is pre-entered in both the Mile and the $5 million Classic and is expected to run in the 1 1/4-mile Classic. Reigning Horse of the Year Curlin tops the 15 horses pre-entered in the Classic.
